The manatee. Majestic, gray, unwieldy- and yet it was chosen to cover the temple of God. More specifically it was a Dugong- the manatee's African cousin- who lent its pelt to cover the temple of God. And I quote,
Exodus 26:14
Make for the tent a covering made of rams skins dyed red and over that a covering of hides of sea cows*
*That is, dugongs
Apparently dugongs are abundant in the Red Sea. I never knew. In all my research about manatee eating habits and my investment in hats, license plates, and charm bracelets did I know I was attracted to a holy animal.
Holy Cow has a totally different meaning doesn't it?
