I picked this poster because he's in a Naval uniform. |
Last night I begged my husband to go see The King's Speech. I'm so glad that I did. Everyone should go see this movie. Everyone.
If you don't know what this movie is about, the King abdicates the throne in 1930-something to marry a twice divorced American movie star with German leanings. His brother in charge. His younger brother has a crippling speech impediment. This movie is about the relationship with King George VI and his speech therapist. It was funny, it was touching, it was dramatic. It's my new favorite movie. It kind of made me want to be English. It's rated R, but only because the King seems to stammer less when cursing. In two scenes he lets out strings of expletives, but even as one keenly effected by the f word, the way it was used in the movie was completely acceptable.
Another perk is that every famous British actor from Harry Potter is in it. Usually they are such good actors you don't see them as their characters, but Michael Gambon, Dumbledore, has such a distinct voice that all I could hear him saying was "Dark and difficult times lie ahead."
Go see this movie. People even clapped at the end.
