carpals, metacarpals, phalanges.

Look at your hands.  Why are you grateful for them?

found here

I'm going to rank this one just under "If you were a tree..."

I have a few reasons to be thankful for my hands.  First of all, my right hand has a large birth mark on it so I can tell my left from my right.  I can't lie to you,  I still reference it if the right or left question is posed to me and I'm not ready for it.

I'm also thankful for my phalanges for they allow me to type.  I don't have to use one of those wands in my mouth.  Giving a thumbs up is convenient.  I feel similarly about the peace sign.

I would like to pose this question to you- How many fingers could you lose before you became completely depressed?  I think I could lose three and still function.

Which fingers? Because losing both pinkies might be bad because then you couldn't type qazp;/'[]\, and you wouldn't be able to type capitals. Forget about contractions. Actually, I could probably function without pinkies, but they're so cute.

On the other hand, no pun intended, there are lots of people who have lost digits or appendages and function just fine. Like the guy who sawed his own arm off when he was caught in the desert between a boulder and a cavern wall. I saw him on a talk show and he is a happy guy. Happy to be alive.

Let's hope I never lose my middle finger. That would be catastrophic.
